PROCLAMATION

A PROCLAMATION TO RECOGNIZE PEARL CROWN MAHANEY ON THE OCCASION OF HER 104TH BIRTHDAY AND TO FURTHER RECOGNIZE HER CONTRIBUTION TO THE SHIRLEY AND VAN BUREN COMMUNITY, THAT MAKES THESE COMMUNITIES GREAT PLACES TO LIVE PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE

WHEREAS:       Mrs.  Mahaney was born October 31, 1910.

WHEREAS:      Mrs. Mahaney moved to Shirley in Van Buren County in 1924.

WHEREAS:      Mrs. Mahaney married Virgil Mahaney in 1926. Their marriage produced  3 daughters and a son.

WHEREAS:      Mrs. Mahaney and Virgil were married for 55 years.

WHEREAS:      Mrs. Mahaney is a member of the Shirley Baptist Church.

WHEREAS:      Mrs. Mahaney was a lifelong homemaker and a great Domino player.

WHEREAS;      Mrs. Mahaney is considered by her community to be a very gracious lady with a sweet personality.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROGER HOOPER, VAN BUREN COUNTY JUDGE, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim, on behalf of Van Buren County, our gratitude and sincere appreciation to Mrs. Pearl Mahaney for 104 years on tireless service and unselfish devotion to her Lord, spouse, children, friends, and community.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I set my hand here-unto and caused the Great Seal of Van Buren County to be official this 31st day of October, in the year our Lord 2014

PROCLAMATION

A PROCLAMATION TO RECOGNIZE THE WEAR AND SHARE ORGANIZATION FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING AND CHARITABLE SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF VAN BUREN COUNTY. THE WEAR & SHARE ORGANIZATION WILL BE CELEBRATING THEIR 20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY IN 2016. WEAR & SHARE IS A GROUP OF 7 FAITH – BASED CHURCHES AND GROUPS THAT HAS PROVIDED VAN BUREN COUNTY CITIZENS MUCH NEEDED ASSISTANCE IN THEIR TIME OF NEED. 

WHEREAS:          Wear and Share was formed in 1995, opened for business on February 17, 1996 and the Grand Opening was held on March 2, 1996.

WHEREAS:          The non – profit organization original board consisted of Board of Directors from six churches in the Fairfield Bay area. The churches were Cornerstone Evangelical Church, Fairfield Bay Baptist Church, Faith Lutheran Church, First United Methodist Church, Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church, and St. Francis Catholic Church. In 2010, Edgemont Peace Lutheran Church was added.

WHEREAS:          The original building was purchased in 1995, 2 additional buildings have been added, and numerous capital improvements over their 20 years.  

WHEREAS:          The total charitable giving for Wearand Share since 1996 has been over $750,000.          

WHEREAS:          The total volunteer hours for Wear and Share since 1996 have been over 150,000 hours. Generally the number of volunteers serving annually is 50 – 75 people.

WHEREAS:          Charitable giving in 2013 consisted of these organizations

1.) Rent and Utilities on behalf of 86 applicants recommended and vetted by DHS – VBC office.        

2.) Animal Protection League

3.) Fairfield Bay Library

4.) Van Buren Co. Aging Program

5.) Van Buren Co. Literacy Council, Inc  

6) The C.A.L.L.

7) Care Caps

8) Foof For Life

9) Mainstreet Kids

10) Single Parent Scholarship

Several Miscellaneous Contributions

 In addition, 3,613 items of clothing and merchandise from salable inventory was provided for emergency and needy situations.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROGER HOOPER, VAN BUREN COUNTY JUDGE, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim, on behalf of Van Buren County, our gratitude and sincere appreciation to the Wear and Share organization for their service and efforts to promote the well being of Van Buren County citizens that makes Van Buren County a better place to live; past, present, and future.
